Welcome to the Central Ohio Information Systems Security Association home page. We are the Columbus chapter of this not-for-profit organization, and since 1989 we have been the voice of security in the metro area. Our 230+ members know that our forums will provide a venue for knowledge-share, networking, and career growth. When you attend one of our events you may find at your table a CISO of a Fortune 1000 firm, a security architect, a security analyst, a privacy officer, an attorney, and/or a security consultant. Diverse backgrounds, different points of view, a wide range of info sec experience and talent spanning every market vertical—all oriented towards addressing security issues faced by practitioners and leaders.
Central Ohio ISSA’s mission is to enhance the professional growth of our members via education, training and networking. We therefore support the goal of our parent organization, ISSA International, by promoting management practices that ensure the availability, confidentiality, and integrity of information resources.
We typically hold our regular chapter meetings on the third Wednesday of the month. Regular meetings are held at J Liu’s Restaurant, 6880 N High Street, Worthington, Ohio. Registration begins at 7:45AM, and we will normally have three topics. As security changes and faces new challenges, our programs are constantly evolving to reflect a dynamic industry. You will likely find us covering topics that relate to each of the ten domains within the CISSP’s CBK, at least once a year. You will also find us to offer the local venue where you can learn about state sponsored cyber threats, cloud security, mobility, social media, consumerization, and Big Data. And we are always looking for the next critical issue facing our members. Let us know what is important to you, your team, and your firm.
Count on your chapter to offer high quality training events at steeply discounted prices for members. We have offered CISSP prep classes on a bi-annual basis for over ten years. More than 500 students have taken advantage of this course offering through the years, with hundreds choosing to sit for the exam and earn certification. Our instructors are tenured practitioners in the community, and have helped foster an environment where our students have traditionally met or exceeded an exam pass rate of 75%. In addition, we offer hands-on training labs and special technical “deep dive” events. It is noteworthy to mention that in 2011 over fifty different practitioners and security leaders delivered more than 115 hours of lecture and instruction to the security community. Our program schedule for 2012 is just as aggressive, and if our events fit your schedule, we will handily take care of your CPE requirements. We also have arrangements with many large vendors in the area to offer product training at a discounted rate, and will often partner with sister organizations for training events.
The Central Ohio InfoSec Summit is the largest recurring security event in Columbus, Ohio. In 2012, join 300 other security professionals on May 17-18, when we host this event at the Hyatt Regency Downtown. Count on presentations from icons in the profession, such as Richard Clarke and Howard Schmidt, leaders throughout our industry, and tenured practitioners. Four tracks will offer a rich agenda sure to interest practitioners, regardless of their specialization or career level.
Our annual golf outing is in September, and our Holiday party in December. Both provide an excellent opportunity for networking in a more relaxed atmosphere.
As a not-for-profit organization, we are grateful to our many sponsors who continue to ensure we have the means to deliver such a wide variety of programs, education, and training. If your firm desires to support the chapter, email us at email@example.com.
